In this songbook, we've gathered a collection of English-language romantic songs and ballads from various countries, including England, Ireland, Scotland, the USA, and Australia. The book features 62 songs, all of which can be played on any keyboard instrument with 13 or more notes.
You can play these songs on a piano, melodica, or even non-keyboard instruments like the xylophone or kalimba, as long as they have enough notes.
While all the melodies are written in traditional musical notation, this book is also beginner-friendly. For those who aren't yet comfortable reading sheet music, we've included corresponding letter inside each note. The letters used in this book follow the common musical notation system, ranging from C to B for each octave.
Each page also features QR codes linking to recordings of the songs. Although these recordings may not exactly match the traditional versions notated in this book, they serve as helpful guides for understanding the melodies and rhythms.
Playing Piano for Complete Beginners
If you’re not familiar with musical notes, you can play by letters instead. To do this, you’ll need to get note stickers for your keys, which are readily available on Amazon or similar sites.
If you're experienced enough to play directly from the sheet music, we hope you'll find this book easy to use. All the melodies have been simplified and adapted for one-hand play.
Playing on Melodica
Similar to the piano, you can play by letters on a melodica after applying the note stickers to the keys. These stickers are available on Amazon or other similar sites, or you can create your own using paper stickers.
Playing on Xylophone
The layout of xylophone keys and their exact number may vary, so refer to the description provided by your xylophone's seller to apply the stickers correctly. Non-professional xylophones usually have the note letters engraved on the keys by the manufacturer. You can also use a toy xylophone, as long as it's tuned and has enough keys.
Playing on Kalimba
Kalimbas often come with either the note letters engraved on the keys or note stickers provided by the manufacturer or seller. Typically, on a 17-note kalimba, the lowest note is the main C, which is the longest key in the middle.
Of the 62 songs in this book, 52 are unique. Ten songs are presented in two versions each, with variations in pitch, note lengths, and/or the exact number of notes.
We hope you will enjoy the unique charm of traditional romantic songs and ballads, and find learning to play them both easy and quick.
